Why Build your own guitars and amps?

Despite loving and playing many brands of guitar and amplifier, I commonly use several instruments and amplifiers that I built myself. Why? Firstly, having a custom instrument that has been designed and built to your specs is a joy to play, as the guitar is perfect for your playing style and will best accommodate the nuances of one's playing style. For example, I really like the Soft V-necks of Clapton Stratocasters and 6105 fret wire with a Compound radius fretboard; which through my years of playing have found to be the ideal neck to match my playing style. It's the same situation with the amplifiers I can build an amp that I really want to use with all the features and specs which will help give me the tone I'm after. Secondly, knowledge by building my own Partscasters and amps I have improved my skills in soldering and general workmanship in regards to repairs and maintaining my instruments. Furthermore, building the amps improved my knowledge of how valve amps work and what impacts each component has on the end product and how they work internally. Moreover, pride. To me when I build something that it is better than the main brand of amp or guitar then every time I use the instrument or amp it's a great feeling to know that I built that and it works so well.
